Work Description
This is a "it gets better" story about an unpopular teenage girl who gets offered a summer job at her uncle's hotel on an island in Maine. Spending time with college students, Jean realizes that there's nothing wrong with her. Since this book was written in the 1950s, it's not surprising that Jean's successes are romantic. What is surprising, given the era, is how much emphasis is on how Jean's self-confidence grows because she grabbed the chance at a new start.
