Woodcut title vignette with the emblem of the East India Company at Hoorn, flanked by figures representing the West and the East; woodcut ill. in text.
Maps of the passage south of the Strait of Magellan to the Pacific Ocean discovered by Schouten, of Nova Guinea, and the Pacific islands and coasts charted by him; the first plate has medallion ports. of Magellan and Schouten and other discoverers, the two hemispheres; the other plates have views of places visited by Schouten.
The journal has side notes giving locations and dates beginning in June 1615, ending July 1617. The date in the side note on p. 52 has a misprint and should read 1617, since the last comment on p. 52 reads "hadden dese onse reyse volbracht in twee jaren en achthien dagen" (we completed this journey in two years and eighteen days). Last line on p. 51 records the death of Jacob Le Maire on 31 November 1616 on board the ship Amsterdam.
Includes "Vocabulaer" (p. 53-56) of the islands visited by Schouten.
Virgules in title have been replaced by commas.
