A 1970s Cold War apocalyptic story where Eugene Arnprior, an engineer living in Montreal, who after learning of a fast spreading airborne virus (released by the Soviets) in the American Rockies moves his wife and two sons to an isolated cabin in Northern Quebec. Arnprior’s family is wiped out when a virus carrier nears their camp - Arnprior is immune but also carries the virus now. The story continues as he travels the dead cities and meets various groups of survivors on the east coast of America and makes contact with a US destroyer off the coast of Florida which is being followed by an eavesdropping Soviet submarine.
