The Anabaptists (among them the Brethren, Mennonites, Amish, and Hutterites) represent an important element in the religious history of this country and a strong overall witness in our culture. The focus of these groups on peace and reconciliation has produced pacifists during many wars in many nations, leading some into alternative service and even imprisonment.
