Constancia de la Mora Maura's autobiography, In Place of Splendour, is an interesting document about the history of a Spanish woman in the first half of the 20th century, specifically about the life of a woman who rebels against the social conventions of her class. The second half of the book contains a detailed account of the Spanish Civil War as seen from a committed perspective, including events in Madrid, Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona, cities where the author lived during the war.
