Denver photographer Nick Del Calzo looks into the eyes of those who have witnessed man's most heinous horrors. His photography captures both the darkness of their pasts and the light of their souls. Ninety-two Jewish survivors of the Nazi Holocaust are commemorated in this book.

What they survived is the attempted genocide by Adolf Hitler's Third Reich when, from 1939 to 1945, six million European Jews were systematically murdered. In Del Calzo's photographic tribute, he honors those who had the courage to survive, and who now have the courage to relive and share their stories.

Each survivor's story is unique, yet each so similar in its pain and tragedy. Each person is one of a few or the only survivor of their extended family prior to the war. Each survivor's experience is dotted with poignant incidents of happenstance that meant the difference between life and death. Each is a story of luck, determination, devotion, and survival.
