Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy BENTON 19.1 no.1 FOLIO from the collection of Josiah Benton. On front pastedown is evidence of an early bookplate, no longer present. On free endpaper is the signature of W. Maskell, together with pencilled codes and commentary on the contents of the book. With dealer's printed catalog description, pasted to flyleaf, which also bears inked inscription dated 1739 "To Thomas Watts Esqr. of Enfield Chace from Joseph Gascoyne Esqr. of Chiswick..." The text following has been blotted out. Bound in contemporary black morocco, gilt in three panels with corner fleurons and massed pyramids of floral tools in outer panel. Spine in 7 compartments, untitled, with gilt centerpiece and corner tooling. Gilt board edges and turn-ins; all text edges gilt.
