Edition Notes

Translation of: Dernieres decouvertes dans l'Amerique Septentrionale de M. de La Sale; mises au jour par M. le chevalier Tonti, gouverneur du Fort Sain Loüis, aux Islinois, first printed Paris, 1697.

The authorship of the French original was denied by Tonti, although it is apparently based on a narrative written by him. Cf. Charlevoix, Histoire de la Nouvelle France, t. 2, 1744, p. 260.

This state has spelling "Buckley" in imprint, but retains error "Grown" for "Crown". Sabin, ESTC and Wing cite only title page with "Buckly" in imprint, Alden cites the imprint with the spelling "Buckley."

"A relation of a voyage made by the Sieur de Montauban, captain of the French privateers, on the coasts of Guinea, in the year 1695. With a description of the kingdom of Cape de Lopez; and an account of the manners, customs and religion of the natives of that country", p. [1]-44, 4th count, has separate dated title page with imprint: London: printed in the year 1698, and is a translation of: Relation du voyage du Sieur de Montauban, captaine des flibustiers, en Guinée en l'année 1695, first printed Amsterdam, 1698.

Signatures: [A]² (-[A]2) ([A]1 verso blank) B-R⁸ (P2, P3 versos blank)
