If ever two people don't want to meet, it's Drake Matthieson and Hadley Spencer. A policeman's widow, Hadley isn't looking for a husband, especially one in a dangerous line of work. Drake, the consummate cop, doesn't want a wife. Hadley represents the reason why, yet a medical emergency brings them together. Hadley's knowledge of art turns out to be useful in helping Drake solve the case of a missing teenage girl, but there's yet a bigger problem for Hadley: She has fallen in love not only with the wrong man but one who doesn't love her.
