The text of this book is based on the "Sanctilogium Angliae, Walliae, Scotiae, et Hiberniae" attributed to John of Tynemouth. It is sometimes mistakenly attributed to John Capgrave.
Translated from English and printed in Latin.
Title taken from the final line of the prologue (a5r) and also from the colophon (2l4v), which continues: Impressa lo[n]donias: i[n] domo Wina[n]di de Worde: co[m]mora[n]tis ad signu[m] solis: in vico nu[n]cupato (the flete strete). Anno d[omi]ni. M.CCCCC.xvi. xxvij. die Februarij. Itaq[ue] omnes hystorie hic collecte: merito dicu[n]tur noue: quia licet quedam de istis etia[m] reperiu[n]tur apud plures: no[n] tamen ita eme[n]date [et] correcte sicut in hoc volumen continentur.
First complete edition of the Nova legenda Anglie. Pynson published an abridged English translation 20 Feb., 1516.

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy bound in early, blind-tooled calfskin. The covers are panelled in floral roll stamps, the inner panel containing a diapered fillet pattern with lozenges comprised of flower and pineapple tools. The spine is ruled in gilt with a black leather label and the gilt stamp of the York Minster Library. The title and the number 165 are inscribed on the fore-edge of the text block. The bookplate of the York Minster Library is present on the front pastedown. The early autograph of "Tobias Dunelm" is present at the head of the first leaf and the title is inscribed at the head of the first prologue leaf. Early marginalia, in various hands, is present throughout the text.
