Edition Notes
First leaf is engraved title, followed by plates numbered 2-24. According to Indice delle stampe de' Rossi, the 2 unnumbered plates depicting bearded old men which follow were included in the collection by chance and are not relevant to its theme (plate [25] signed D.P. for Domenico Piola). The 4 remaining unnumbered plates are relevant studies of anatomy (no. [28] signed by Jean Baron), though the Indice mentions only 3.
Giovanni Domenico de Rossi died in 1653, but the inventory of that year listed only 25 plates for this work. Subsequent Indici give 28 beginning in 1677 (including the 3 unnumbered but relevant plates), and 29 from 1737 to the present.
Plates [25] and [26] etched, remainder engraved.
Indice delle stampe de' Rossi, p. 408
Binding: 18th-century mottled sheepskin. Spine gilt tooled. Edges sprinkled red.
