Edition Notes

Eighty pamphlets and offprints chiefly on English architecture. Emphasis is on the medieval period, with some material on 19th-century English architecture, the restoration of medieval buildings, and various antiquarian subjects. They are contained in 6 v. in 19th-century bindings. Each vol. has a paper spine label giving partial contents, with fuller contents written in pencil on the front fly leaf.

Sir George Gilbert Scott was a major architect of the Victorian Gothic Revival, and a noted restorer of medieval buildings. His commissions include the Albert Memorial, and St. Pancras Station and Hotel.

Vol. 1 includes the following unanalyzed publications: [20] plates illustrating metalwork, medieval and Renaissance, drawn and engraved by Henry Shaw and published by W. Pickering in 1832 and 1833 -- Old Testament history, illustrated by a series of designs by an English artist about AD 1310, drawn from a ms. now in the old Royal Collection, British Museum [Royal 2 B VII : Queen Mary Psalter] ... by N.H.J. Westlake. London : Masters ; Oxford : J.H. Parker, 1858.

Vol. 2 includes the following unanalyzed publications of the Oxford Architectural Society: Reports of meetings from July 1853 to May 31, 1856 -- Report from Jan. MDCCCXLVIII. to July MDCCCXLIX : the rules, list of members and reports of meetings -- Annual report for MDCCCXLVII : the rules, list of members, and reports of meetings -- Proceedings of the Oxford Society for Promoting the Study of Gothic Architecture: Easter & Trinity terms, 1846. Vol. 2 also includes the following unanalyzed publication: Handbook to the parish of Titsey / by Granville Leveson Gower (London : Wyman, 1869).

Vol. 3 includes the following unanalyzed publications: On the population and taxation of Colchester, taken for collecting a quindime, 29th Edward I (1301) / C.H. Hartshorne. The life and times of Wulfstan, Bishop of Worcester / Walter Farquhar Hook.
