In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, Lewis Tappan discusses matters related to the American Missionary Association and the Washington newspaper (the National era). After talking about the death of Phelpśs mother, Tappan discusses the bills relating to slavery that were passed by the legislatures of different states, as well as the Wilmot Proviso passed by the House of Representatives.
