A commonplace book, this volume contains private notes, correspondence (to and from Elizabeth Cady Stanton), diaristic writings, literary transcriptions, and pasted-in engravings of various European tourist sites. The written materials do not appear to be arranged sequentially, with date inscriptions ranging from 1831 to 1841 in no obvious order. There are blank leaves throughout.

Edition Notes
Holograph.
Title devised by cataloger.
Inscriptions range in date from 1831 to 1841.
"This book belonged to Elizabeth Cady Stanton before her marriage & was taken with her on her wedding trip to Europe in 1840. Some of the written pages are "sentiments" from her Johnstown friends; but others, especially in the back, are by Mrs. Stanton and are evidently extracts from books she was reading and reflections of her own. The pictures were pasted in during her first European tour."--Note on the front flyleaf by Theodore Stanton, dated 1897.
Bound in contemporary black calfskin panelled in gilt and blind. The spine has been rebacked.
