Edition Notes
Lacks title-page.
The manuscript originals of these Johnson papers, in seven bundles, were deposited in the secretary of state's office, Apr. 1801. The entire collection is here printed, with the exception of a few papers of special character, and certain letters, etc., which had disappeared before 1849. cf. p. 1008-9. The bundles were later scattered and re-arranged in other collections, and transferred to the State library.
The above-mentioned group must be distinguished from the collection of "Sir William Johnson manuscripts" in 26 v., acquired by the State library between 1850 and 1863: though a number of the papers here printed found their way later to that collection. All the Johnson papers in the State library are listed in "Calender of the Sir William Johnson manuscripts, in the New York State library. Comp. by Richard E. Day. Albany, 1909."
In The documentary history of the state of New-York. Albany, 1849; v. 2, p. [543]-1009.
