Holograph.
This manuscript consists of two poems by Maria Weston Chapman. The poem entitled "Sonnet," begins with the line "Thy Life's bright summer fair before thee lies..." The sonnet was printed in the Liberty Bell, 1844, p.223. On verso, is the poem "The Negro." This poem begins: "Scarred by the scourge of slavery was he..."
Also with the same call number is an unrelated letter to "My dear Friend," from M.C.E. This is a get well letter, wishing that the friend's "face ache" improves. A gift is mentioned in the letter.
