Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

Samuel Johnson writes: "I thank you for the invitation extended to me to speak at the approaching A. S. [Anti-Slavery] Bazaar. My interest in the cause won't lead me to accept it. But I do not wish my name announced. I may not be present on the occasion specified, & if present, may not feel in [the] mood to speak."

Includes an envelope with the delivery address: "Miss A. W. Weston, No. 21 Cornhill, Boston." It is postmarked Dec. 16, Boston, Mass.
