Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

Anne Warren Weston says that Richard Hildreth called, and that she had dinner with Henry W. Longfellow. Read Madame de Stael's "Delphine." She calls it a "disgraceful book." "...Caroline went out to Weymouth with Henry Cowing in order to talk over her Colman affair." She describes a particularly fervent Abolitionist sermon delivered in a Salem Street church by the Rev. Towne of Amesbury. Hildreth called again. More talk about the burning of his novel, "Archy Moor." "Now I will give you a little general news. Melania [Ammidon] was married yesterday morning. No one was present except the Russell family ... Bro. Howard Ange were the bride's people ... Ann Terry is engaged to Wendell Phillips." She describes the courtship of the Phillips.
