Edition Notes
Holograph, signed.
Title provided by cataloger.
Was awakened the night before by the express which brought his note. The people are alarmed daily by expresses coming from Fort Stanwix and bring word of the mutinous state of Captain Scabe's (?) company. Is surprised that Schuyler has not given more particular instructions concerning the destination of the regiment. Wonders if he intends to take Fort Stanwix before July. Mr. Deane believes that the Oneidas would favor the move. Believes that the white man with letters from Pittsburgh to the Indians is a messenger sent to inform them that there is no cause for alarm at the troops marching. Reports that his own regiment is in good condition--has lost one man in a drowning accident, a soldier named Murfy.
Author was Lt. Col., 3d New Jersey Continental Regt.
The Boston Public Library's American Revolutionary War Manuscripts Collection has been cataloged and digitized through the generous support of the Yale Class of 1955.
