It is with pardonable pride that the publishers issue this, the second edition of the San Francisco Block Book.
The first edition, long since exhausted, was so thoroughly appreciated by those for whom it was intended and the request for a revised edition has been so urgent that the publishers have decided after careful consideration to comply with the demand, although they doubt whether the public will realize the magnitude of the undertaking. The present publication contains nearly twice the amount of data as appeared in the first edition and all the maps (over 700) have been enlarged to double the size.
The correctness of the work is vouched for and the publishers are indebted for official courtesies to the City Engineer, County Recorder and Assessor; also to the searchers of records, attorneys, real estate men and realty owners who have co-operated with the compiler.
The former edition comprised the Fifty Vara and One Hundred Vara Surveys, Western Addition and Mission. The present work in addition to the foregoing contains in full the Richmond District, Sunset District, Flint Tract, Horner's Additon and a few other tracts.
The paper is of the finest quality made especially for this work with a view to strength. The printing is excellent and the binding is both attractive and durable. The work complete was produced in the establishment of The Hicks-Judd Company.
The publishers have more than redeemed their promises to subscribers and believing their efforts will be appreciated they now place in their hands a volume unequaled in value as a reference book to San Francisco real estate. San Francisco, October, 1901.
