12 leaves of text on translucent paper alternate with leaves of hand-colored etchings.

Ten etchings of ficticious creatures inspired by contemporary political attitudes and described as scientific specimens. Bound in red cloth and housed in a red clamshell box with a transparent cover, made to look like a specimen box.

"An edition of 25 books & 15 boxed suites. The type 14 point Romulus was cast by Julia Ferrari & Dan Carr in Ashuelot, N.H. Art Larson printed the letterpress & etchings at the new Double Elephant Press offices in Hadley, Mass. Shannon Brock of Brooklyn made the translucent abaca & cover papers. The etching paper is by Zecchi of Firenze. Lisa Van Pelt of Easthampton, Mass., was binder & boxer"--Colophon

Fifteen copies are accompanied by three portfolios in a box labeled Matériel. First portfolio is labeled "extra suite" and holds a second copy of the book, unbound. Second portfolio labeled "state proofs" holds ten etchings marked i/vi, ten marked drypoint i/v, ten marked first state i/v, and ten marked second state i/v. Third portfolio labeled "copper plates" holds two copper plates. Prospectus laid in.

LC copy has the copper plates for Popular Brown Nose Toad and American Imperialist Moth.
