Results of a photoelastic model test which simulates the junction of the closure bar with sheet of a heat exchanger are presented. Values of shear stress 30 percent above predicted values were found to exist. A linear technique for determination of maximum shearing stress is presented for the purpose of design. Qualitative techniques were employed to compare the results of tests of various photoelastic models.
