Edition Notes
"Index and biographical notices of ancient masters, by George Scharf": p. 210-229.
Includes index.
Library's c. 1 is interleaved and extensively annotated by the original owner, John Peck, of Wisbech St. Mary, whose name appears on the first leaf. Peck, who visited the Exhibition on Aug. 8-10, provides descriptions of the circumstances of the Exhibition, the building and its decoration, and the opening ceremonies, as well as observations on many of the paintings in the section, "Paintings by Ancient Masters." (These observations are taken largely from Waagen's Treasurers of art in Great Britain, which Peck credits (opp. p. 15).). Library's copy 1 is shelved in SPECIAL COLLECTIONS.
