First ed. edited by Charles Knight and published by Charles Cox in 1847 with colour plates using Knight's patented process; this edition reset, with different colour plates, and additional text and engravings on text pages not in the 1847 edition.
Issued originally in paper parts; intended as a companion volume to Old England; printed and bound uniformly with the 2 vol. Sangster ed. of Old England published in 1864.
Colour plates with the imprint of Leighton Brothers.
MASS copy: Bound in red morocco-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind, signed JL [i.e. John Leighton].
