This book comprises a genealogical review of the Longstreth family, beginning in the 17th century in the small market town of Giggleswick, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England, up until the book was published, in 1909. It carefully lists each generation by number, documents births, deaths, and marriages over time, including photos and references. Bartholomew Longstreth arrived in Philadelphia in 1699, the first to emigrate to America. According to the author, he had been disowned by his Presbyterian father for joining the Society of Friends, that is, becoming a Quaker. His descendants remained largely loyal to that faith for several generations, as they moved west over time, from William Penn's protection in and around Bucks County Pennsylvania, to Ohio. Indiana, Illinois, and Kansas. They began as farmers and tradesmen, good hard-working citizens. A fascinating work of genealogical history that reflects the story of early English settlers in America.
