Preface dated June, 1844, is followed by the note: [sales having] "rendered a second edition ... necessary before the entire completion of the work, such alterations, corrections, and additions only have been made as could be introduced without altering the original paging ... Some oversights ... have been corrected and some omissions supplied..." Dedication to the "Venerable Charles Thorp" is also dated "Durham, 1st June, 1844."
