The Ecological Engineering close-out of a Northern Ontario zinc mine was evaluated by determination of the iron-precipitation and sulfide-oxidation rates in the tailings. The biological system was designed to precipitate heavy metals and to counteract the acidity of the tailings discharge by alkalinity generation.
