With Lachmann's edition of Lucretius, to which the Commentary is attached, it is the founding text of 19th century classical philology, and while drawing the stemma of the ancient MSS of Lucretius Lachmann developed is method (see Sebastiano Timpanaro, La genesi del metodo del Lachmann, Firenze 1963=OL5581952M ).
