By Priya Viswanath, (Foreword by Gururaj Despande)
Published by: Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy, Mumbai

"Diaspora Philanthropy has the potential of building meaningful bridges and making an ensuring contribution to development projects in India."
L.M. Singhvi, Chairman, High Level Committee on Indian Diaspora (in Diaspora Indians - On the Philanthropy Fast Track [p. ix.])

  • [The book] will enable the Diaspora and India to start thinking seriously about how to encourage a lot more philanthropy and also co-ordinate it in a way that it makes the biggest impact for India.' Gururaj Despande, Founder & Chairman, Sycamore Networks (in Diaspora Indians - On The Philanthropy Fast Track [p. xii.])

Diaspora Indians - On The Philanthropy Fast Track traces the efforts of some among the Indian Diaspora in the Far East, Middle East, United Kingdom and United States to 'reconnect' with their home country and be participants in the social development agenda.

The book profiles the Indian community in the four regions in terms of geography, size and origins and maps giving patterns, including the initiatives of philanthropists in each Diaspora community.

It also profiles institutions and groups across the world that are promoting organised Diaspora giving.

An important section of the book is the attempt to highlight 'issues' related to giving back as indicated in dialogue with Diaspora Indians; the book concludes with possible ideas and solutions to increase the participation of Indians everywhere in the development of the country.
