Don Donaldson was blinded by an exploding dynamite cap when he was in first grade in Spokane. From age 11 he attended the Washington State School for the Blind in Vancouver. His eyesight was restored by surgery when he was 21. He received an M.A. from the University of Washington and did graduate work at Harvard. He was a teacher and cottage master at Boston's famous Perkins School for the Blind for five years, taught in Washington State high schools, and held a principal's position at the Washington State School for the Blind for 20 years. Now at 93, Donaldson lives in Vancouver, Washington.
