Duncan was the wife of an Illinois governor (1834-38) and U.S. Congressman. Her diary describes pioneer life in Jacksonville, Illinois, the death of the governor, early medical practices, and widowhood. Entries are fragmentary, but fairly continuous from Jan. 1841-Jan. 1848
