Tales of the Palouse hills

This book is a history of Eastern Washington told in short stories beginning a million years ago with the formation of the Palouse Hills. The stories take you on a journey through time covering the movement of human beings over the Bering land bridge 15,000 years ago, the discovery of America, and the westward movement of pioneers. The book focuses on the settling of the Oregon territory and what became the Washington territory. The journey covers the discovery of gold and silver, the establishment of the Whitman and Spalding missions, and the heart-wrenching, brutal campaign waged by the whites to wipe out the native Indian population. Many pioneer families are featured in this book. It’s a must read for anyone with pioneer ancestors who settled in Eastern Washington, particularly in Whitman County.
