Edition Notes

"Boston, September 5th 1753. At a meeting of the proprietors of the Kennebeck Purchase from the late colony of Plymouth: voted, that the foregoing reply be printed. Thomas Marshall, prop. cler."--p. 50.

Two states of text known, possibly two issues or states of printing: state 1, p. 9 has additional text of 10 lines "This would be sufficient if we had nothing more to rely on ... and therefor cannot be charged even with being redundant" after passage line 9-10 "rivers and waters were not granted?-"; in state 1, p. 10 the words "But let us see what they have to say further ... and brought it to so good an issue-" begins on line 24 and is an unbroken paragraph with "This seems to be an unlucky quotation for them :"; state 2, p. 10 these same words are printed on line 18-25 and the words "This seems to be an unlucky quotation for them :" begin a new paragraph. Typographically state 1 may be an earlier printing and contains other variations and additions in the text.

"Errata."--p. 50.

Evans 6988.

English short title catalogue W20119.

John Carter Brown Library copy 1 has folded map with title "Map of Plymouth's patent of the territory on the Kennebeck, to accompany Mr. Drake's additions to Baylies's Memoir of New Plymouth", which was probably not issued with this work; cop. 1 map is facsim. backed with linen; cop. 2 wanting folded map.
