Edition Notes

Two of the main characters in the novel use the surnames "Trampleasure" and "Tramplara." The story says that they were Tramplaras, but they changed their name (possibly to hide a scandal) to Trampleasure. This name change actually happened, although about 100 years before the novel was written. The author was known to wander around the south of England collecting stories to weave into his stories. Perhaps he found these two names and the name change and decided to incorporate it into one of his novels.
