Alexander Rose is an American designer, engineer, artist, and futurist best known for his work with The Long Now Foundation, and his involvement in the design and construction of the 10,000-year Clock of the Long Now, a monumental timepiece intended to keep accurate time for ten millennia. He has played a pivotal role in advancing long-term thinking and sustainability in engineering and technology.
Alexander Rose is currently the Director of Long-term Futures at Automattic Inc. He continues to advise on the completion of the 10,000 Year Clock, and holds the title of executive director emeritus at The Long Now Foundation. Alexander writes and speaks about the future, long-lived organizations, and his work on long-term thinking and design. He is a founding partner at Inertia Labs where he builds robots for competitions and the TV show BattleBots since 1997. Alexander also builds art projects ranging from pyrotechnic shows for Burning Man to robots that make cocktails.
