Studies performances, symbolism and cultural significance of legendary silver-masked wrestler, popular hero and star of more than 50 movies. Known as "El Santo," masked legend was played by Rodolfo Guzman Huerta (1917-1984). Analyzes urban and social climate in which myth emerged, his rapid multi-media rise to fame, his interactions with managers, directors and others in wrestling and film industries. Originally published in 2004, this second edition includes new prologue and has been re-worked in several chapters and includes new discussion of recent "reinvention" of El Santo myth and eroticism in late 1970s.
