The story of a Scottish Canadian family who migrate to the Alaskan wilderness after the lose of their fortune. The father will sacrifice anything and anyone to regain his status. This is the first book in the saga and features the eldest daughter and the horrors she endures for the good of the family it also is a sweet romance that reflects the mores and values of the era and the time that it was written. Excellent young adult story that should appeal to women of all ages.
