"BACON in his Novum Organum recommends the student to observe indifferently all facts presented to him, but to reserve in some way his interest and attention for the really significant and instructive facts which he calls privileged or prerogatived facts (praerogativae instantiarum) and among these facts, of which he reckons twenty-seven kinds, he accords almost the first place to ostensive (or predominating) instances (instantiae ostensivae)."
