Producer Ray Stark had the inspiration of inviting nine photographers known for their views of the contemporary American scene to document the making of a phenomenon. The result is "Annie on Camera," a collection of beautiful, quirky, entertaining and evocative photographs, revealing the behind-the-scenes rhythms of filmmaking and the odd juxtaposition of fantasy and reality that characterize a movie set.

The photographers eagerly accepted the challenge, rushing to shoot the action closest at hand, whether at the California studios, Radio City Music Hall, or the "Warbucks Mansion" in West Long Branch, New Jersey. From Slavin's group portrait of cast and crew to Meyerowitz's seductive chorus girls to Staller's kaleidoscopic plays of light, each portfolio captures a unique perspective on the creative, visually chaotic process of making a movie and offers images of "Annie" that will be seen nowhere else.
