Dihydroergotamine (DHE) is a semisynthetic ergot alkaloid that is hypothesized to exert its antimigraine effect via its agonist activity at the serotonin 5-HT receptor, resulting in vasoconstriction of intracranial blood vessels and inhibition of inflammatory neuropeptide release.
