Blenden hall

the true story of a shipwreck, a casting away and life on a desert island

A description of the 1821 wreck of the East Indiaman, The Blenden Hall, in the Tristan da Cunha group of islands in the subAntarctic off the tip of Africa. The survivors were able to get ashore on Inaccessible Island. A diary was kept by Alexander M. Greig and published in 1847 under the title "Fate of the Blenden Hall, East Indiaman ... bound to Bombay: with an account of her wreck, and the sufferings and privations endured by the survivors for six months, on the desolate islands of Inaccessible and Tristan d'Acunha" the survivors were eventually rescued after 3 months and 18 days by Mr Glass, the governor of Tristan da Cunha. A month later in January 1822 they were taken off the island by the Nerinae bound for Cape Town.
