Edition Notes
Introduction includes bibliography (p. xxxii-xxxiv)
The first twenty-two characters, added to the second impression of Overbury's poem, A wife, 1614, were by Overbury and others; the number was increased to eighty-three in subsequent impressions by the contributions of anonymous authors. John Webster has been suggested by the present editor and others as the probable author of the thirty-two characters added to the sixth impression (1615)
