Edition Notes

"The collection of state-tryals in four volumes in folio, being a work so very useful and necessary to make it more compleat, it was thought fitting ... to add to it the remarkable tryal of Mr. Hambden, in the great case of ship-money ... For that reason therefore we caused it to be printed of the same size and on the same paper: tho'it would have been inserted in the collection could the proprietors of this copy have been prevailed upon to have parted with their property to the undertakers on their terms ...": preface.
Hampden was tried, 1637-1638, in the Court of Exchequer Chamber, on a writ of scire facias brought in the Court of Exchequer, requiring him to show cause why he should not be charged with 20 shillings assessed upon him.
Thomas Harrison was tried in 1638 in the Court of King's Bench. Cf. p. 235-238.
Another issue, with same imprint and pagination, has title: The tryal of John Hambden ...
