A reissue with cancel t.-p. of v. 1 of his "Essays. On the nature and immutability of truth ... On poetry and music, as they affect the mind. On laughter, and ludicrous composition. On the utility of classical learning ...", 2 v., 1776. The signatures include "Vol. i." throughout, & p. 475 ends "The end of the first volume." There was also a London reissue, styled "The sixth edition, corrected", with imprint "London: Printed for Edward and Charles Dilly, in the Poultry; and William Creech, Edinburgh. MDCCLXXVIII"; in that reissue, some of the sheets are without volume indication, apparently reprinted to make up shortages.
