Two years after arriving in the Philippines, I'd like you to share our impressions and experiences. Perhaps you will wonder why these vignettes are not more organized. There is a reason. I didn't try to categorize them simply because they didn't happen in categories. Life comes to all of us as an everchanging mixture of the sublime and the ridiculous, the tragic and the glorious, not in neatly separated chapters but as quickly overlapping experiences. Actually the scenes are fairly chronological, and from them I hope you can catch a glimpse of "how it was." - Preface.
