The World's Columbian Exposition (also known as The Chicago World's Fair) was held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492. More than 200 buildings were erected for the fair, designed by (among others) Charles McKim, George B. Post, Solon Spencer Beman, Henry Van Brunt, Frank Maynard Howe, Robert Swain Peabody, Sophia Hayden, and Louis Sullivan.
