The volume examines languages, cultures, and Italian identities from a global perspective. How is Italy perceived outside its borders, and how it is recreated in the imagination of those who (in one way or another) feel like they are Italian citizens, even if they sometimes can not speak the language, or don't even have a passport? In particular, we focus on what we can call "the Italy outside of Italy," parts of a "local global world" where cultural and ethnic identities are less tied to the territory than they were in the past. This transnational perspective translates into issues that also concern politics, and bring into play the idea of ​​nation and democracy.
