One of several states of the first edition. This one has engraved title page only; A1r bears a dedication signed "EDM. GUNTER" in large and small caps. Variant 1: dedication in an earlier imposition, with "EDM. GUNTER" all in caps.

"The first booke of the crosse-staffe" (caption title) has separate pagination and register.
