Monument

Drago Tršar : monumentalnost in množica : pregledna razstava monumentalnega kiparstva = monumentality and multitude : a survey exhibition of monumental sculpture

In the selection of works and the installation of the exhibition, curated by dr. Mark Jenko has always been involved with artist Drago Trsar. They focused on work that exceeds 70 centimeters in any dimension, in height, width or depth, with some reaching well over 2 meters. The exhibition offers over 50 works from public and private collections in Slovenia and abroad, mostly in bronze. The work spans from the early 1950s to the present. They are accompanied by archives and videos, which are either archival or (mostly drone) aerial photographs of selected monuments and other public sculptural works in Slovenia and abroad. Due to the extraordinary technical complexity of the preparation for the exhibition and the installation process, a great credit goes to the technical team of the Modern Gallery and the additional assistance of Rotar Art doo services. A big thanks also go to the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana (ALUO) or the team of restaurateurs led by Mag. Nada Madžarac, Liza Lampič (Modern Gallery) and Asst. Mag. Yuri Smole and Assoc. prof. Mag. Tamara Trček Pečak (ALUO). The catalog editor is dr. Marko Jenko, who also prepared a study of Drago Trsar's oeuvre and an inventory of Trsar's monumental or great sculpture for the catalog. The catalog will include over 200 reproductions and a comprehensive biobibliographic section by Bojana Rogina (Documentation-Archive of the Modern Gallery). If the exhibition focuses on a dimension on one side, on the other side, especially in the light of a catalog study, besides the so-called interior sculpture and other content or formal threads, as the most crucial and from today's point of view, certainly a very topical point of view emphasizes the very mass or the mass, as defined by Zoran Kržišnik, the author of the first monograph on Drago Trsar decades ago. Curator dr. Marko Jenko expands and sharpens these insights in his study.
