"The space which civil society organisations (CSOs) operate worldwide has been narrowing on a progressive basis, with the adoption of laws that impose tedious regulatory requirements on CSOs. In Uganda, new laws have been adopted that regulate the registration of organisations, establish requirements for them to operate, and put in place numerous compliance requirements. In addition, laws have been adopted that govern access to public spaces. In 2016, the Parliament of Uganda adopted the Non-Government Organisations (NGO) Act, 2016, a law which came in force in 2017."--Page 4
